Copyright Policy
The International Journal of Cyber Law (IJCL) respects the intellectual property rights of authors and is committed to transparent copyright arrangements. This Policy governs copyright ownership in articles published by IJCL and the rights necessary for the Journal to publish, reproduce, distribute, and maintain those articles.
A. Copyright Retention
Authors retain the copyright in their original scholarly work published by the International Journal of Cyber Law (IJCL).
Submission and publication of an article in IJCL do not require authors to transfer copyright ownership to the Journal or its Publisher.
By submitting a manuscript for publication, the author or authors confirm that they have the necessary authority to grant the rights required for the Journal to publish the work in accordance with this Policy and the applicable publication license.
B. Rights Granted to the Journal
Upon acceptance for publication, the author or authors grant IJCL a non-exclusive right to publish the article as the original place of publication and to reproduce, communicate, distribute, display, and make the article available through the Journal’s official publishing platform and associated scholarly publishing services.
This grant includes the right to create, store, reproduce, and communicate the bibliographic and publication metadata associated with the article, including the title, author names, affiliations, abstract, keywords, publication details, and DOI.
The rights granted to IJCL are limited to those reasonably necessary for the publication, identification, dissemination, and administration of the published article.
C. Author Reuse and Dissemination
Authors may reuse, reproduce, share, distribute, and otherwise disseminate their published work, subject to the terms of the applicable license.
Where authors reproduce or republish the article, in whole or in substantial part, they shall acknowledge its original publication in the International Journal of Cyber Law (IJCL).
Where available, the acknowledgement should include the complete bibliographic citation and DOI of the original published article.
D. Open Access License
Articles published by IJLP are made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
The terms governing the reuse, sharing, adaptation, attribution, and other permitted uses of published articles are set out in the Journal’s separate License Policy.
This Copyright Policy should be read consistently with the applicable CC BY 4.0 license. Nothing in this Policy shall restrict rights expressly granted under that license.
E. Third-Party Material
Authors are responsible for ensuring that they hold the necessary rights or have obtained the necessary permissions to reproduce any third-party material included in their manuscript, including images, photographs, figures, tables, illustrations, datasets, maps, extracts, or other copyright-protected material.
Where third-party material is used under a license, permission, or other lawful basis that imposes specific conditions or restrictions, authors shall ensure that those conditions are clearly identified where necessary.
The inclusion of third-party material in an article does not transfer ownership of that material to the author, IJLP, or the Publisher.
Where third-party material is not covered by the CC BY 4.0 license applicable to the article, the relevant copyright or licensing status shall be appropriately indicated.
F. Author Warranties
By submitting a manuscript to IJCL, the author or authors confirm that, to the best of their knowledge and authority:
- They are the copyright owner of the original material contained in the manuscript or have the necessary rights and permissions to submit and publish it;
- The manuscript does not knowingly infringe the copyright or other intellectual property rights of another person or entity;
- Any third-party material has been used with the necessary permission or under an applicable lawful basis for use;
- The author or authors have the authority to grant IJCL the non-exclusive publication rights specified in this policy; and
- The publication of the manuscript does not knowingly violate any contractual, legal, or other binding obligation applicable to the author or authors.
G. Copyright Notices and Attribution
Copyright notices, author attribution, DOI information, and other bibliographic information associated with the published article should not be removed or altered in a manner that misrepresents the authorship, publication status, or original source of the work.
Any reuse of material published by IJCL shall comply with the attribution requirements of the applicable license and any separate restrictions clearly identified in relation to third-party material.
H. Copyright Concerns and Infringement Claims
Any person who believes that material published by IJCL infringes copyright or another intellectual property right may notify the Journal and provide sufficient information to identify the relevant material and explain the basis of the claim.
The Journal may review the information provided and, where appropriate, take reasonable action in accordance with applicable law and its relevant editorial and publication policies.
I. Relationship with Other Journal Policies
This Policy governs copyright ownership and the publication rights granted to IJCL. It should be read together with the Journal’s separate License Policy, Open Access Policy, and Repository Policy.
Where a specific issue is governed by the applicable Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), the terms of that license shall apply to the extent of the rights granted under the license.
